How much do earthworks cost?
As a guide, earthworks cost between €8 and €25 per m³ in normal ground, plus VAT, including digging, moving and compacting soil within the same plot. Bringing in fill, taking soil to a tip or working in rock increases the price. For plots, we usually quote by item or by machine hours.
How much does it cost to level a plot of land?
As a guide, levelling costs €5–7/m² if the ground is uneven but fairly flat, and €10–13/m² on a slope where cut and fill is needed. For example, levelling 250 m² of uneven ground costs around €1,250–1,750 plus VAT. Moving surplus or extra soil is added on top.
Do I need a licence to level a plot in Spain?
Levelling a plot usually needs a council licence or a ‘declaración responsable’, especially if the ground level changes, embankments are built or the land is rustic (rural). On rustic land in the Axarquía, earthworks are particularly closely controlled. MURES checks your case during the site visit before moving anything.
What is the difference between cut and fill?
Cut means lowering the ground by removing soil; fill means raising it by adding soil compacted in 20–30 cm layers. On Axarquía hillsides the two are almost always combined: the upper part is cut, the lower part is filled, and the resulting bank is held with an escollera rock wall or retaining wall.
How is fill compacted so it doesn't sink?
Fill is compacted in layers of 20 to 30 cm, dampening the soil and running a vibrating roller or plate compactor over each one. Tipping all the fill in one go and only compacting the top is the most common reason a slab or wall sinks a few months later.
Do you clear overgrown plots?
Yes. MURES clears plots with machinery: removing scrub, roots, stones and rubble, plus the topsoil if you are going to build. It is a common first step before levelling, building a pool or putting up a wall. Everything removed is taken to a licensed facility.
